For Montreal born, Brooklyn based saxophonist Chet Doxas, the visual arts and music are two things that have been present throughout his life and over the last seven years, he has been embracing and celebrating the idea of how the two mingle and where they intersect. "Quite simply put, when I look at paintings, I hear music" says Doxas. "The intersection is one that I feel very fortunate to be able to experience and revel in."
In the interpret seven of Canada’s national masterpieces by The Group of Seven.” The pieces for Rich In Symbols II were composed in situ while looking at the paintings with manuscript paper in hand. Later, the music and projections of the work are presented simultaneously in a live concert setting. The line-up consists of Chet Doxas – saxophones, clarinet and field recordings, Jacob Sacks piano and mellotron, Joe Grass pedal steel, guitar and banjo, Zack Lober on bass and Eric Doob on drums and programming. Spoken word poem read by Sam Roberts.
