John Lee Hooker
John Lee Hooker was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 1917. A bluesman who never played by the rules, Hooker never followed the blues traditions established long before his time. His fame instead rests on the sound he achieved by amplifying the Delta Blues style, the energy with which he did this, and his ethereal, almost otherworldly voice. Mr. Hooker passed away in June, 2001.
